Live-aboard
A popular option in New Zealand is to live aboard the boat, thereby increasing range, minimising wasted steaming time, maximising and extending fishing time and adding another dimension to the experience. Nights are spend anchored in sheltered spots rather than in open sea unless night fishing for Broadbill.
Provisions
The live aboard rate is per person per day and includes all meals, snacks, soft drinks, bedding and linen. Some top end charters include this in the charter rate and a few skippers prefer your own food & sleeping bags to be provided. Day rates rarely include lunches, but often provide tea & coffee and, sometimes, light snacks. Lunches can usually be provided at an extra cost or you are welcome to bring your own.
Extended trips
Apart from the obvious charter of two or more days, this usually means travelling to distant recognised hotspots which often requires a second qualified Captain and greater survey specifications which increases the charter rate.
Start/finish times
Most charters are based on an 8am – 5pm day rate, however a few boats prefer to leave at 7am and cruisers tend to leave at 9am. Times can usually be tailored to suit your requirements and prices adjusted accordingly.
Tackle
Most charters provide tackle and bait in the rate, but some have a lower base rate and charge for tackle hire/bait provision as stated in individual boat details.
